Marcus Piper is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who helps individuals, couples, and families make changes in their lives. His 30 years of professional experience enables him to understand how people change, and to assist them in mastering the change process.
Marcus received his Bachelor's degree in psychology from Western Illinois University in Macomb (Go Leathernecks!) and his Master's degree in clinical psychology from the same institution. He has worked professionally at Community Mental Health Centers in Illinois (Pike County, Randolph County, and Madison County), as well as an inpatient psychiatric hospital (St. Elizabeth's, now Gateway Regional), substance abuse counseling organizations, and Employee Assistance Programs in Illinois and St. Louis. Marcus has been in private practice for five years. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Missouri, and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois. (He has lots of initials after his name; Marcus Piper, MS, LPC, LCPC [and next EIEIO!?]).
Quick note: A man received a business memo from a colleague. It was signed, "Bill Johnson, NDGA".
The man had never heard of this degree/license/certification. The next time he saw his colleague, he asked. "Hey Bill, I've never heard of "NDGA". What does that stand for?
Bill replied. "No Degree, Good Anyway"!
Marcus grew up in Shipman, IL, population 500 (counting cats and dogs). This is about 15 miles north of Alton, IL. He chose this field as a result of his mother having experienced very severe depression when he was a teen. He wanted to understand emotional problems and help people overcome them. He is married (20 years and counting) and has a daughter, a step-daughter and son-in-law, and a 7 year old grand daughter. He and his family live in Granite City, IL. His interests are reading, music, computers, sports (Go Cards!), and learning more about how people change to make lasting improvements in their lives.
Marcus draws from his life experience (54 years and counting) and professional training and experience, to offer practical, effective assistance with overcoming life's problems. His clients and peers have described him as caring, practical, down to earth, and creative.
(PS. I don't have a couch like the one on the top of this page. I do have a couch that you'll sit on.)
