Training experience:

1979:

Developed and implemented a month long, alcoholism awareness program, for Pike County Illinois social service agency. This included television (WGEM, NBC Affiliate in Quincy, IL) and radio (Pittsfield, station) appearances, contributing to a newspaper article in Quincy paper, and planning and facilitating a public panel discussion.

1980 to 1984:

Developed crisis intervention training materials and protocols for a community mental health agency (Human Service Center, Randolph County Illinois). This included group presentations, and training staff in crisis intervention procedures and techniques.

1983:

Developed and presented stress management for teachers for Chester, IL school district.

1982 to 1986:

CO-CHAIRPERSON of Inter-Agency Staff Development, a consortium of 25 Metro-East Illinois social service agencies. Organization planned and provided five full day professional training seminars annually to groups of 50 to 100 professionals. Contracted with trainers and facilities. Developed brochures and publicity. Coordinated registration and acted as treasurer.

1984:

Facilitated EAP Employee Orientation and Supervisor trainings to multiple client-company groups for Personal Performance Consultants (PPC).

1985:

Developed Drug Free Workplace training materials, and presented them to a Steel Workers Union local officers and a Head Start Program Board in Alton, IL

1987 to 1989:

Developed and presented psycho-educational groups for chronically mentally ill adults in a day treatment program. Primary focus was substance abuse education. This involved presentations, discussion groups, videotape presentations, and arranging guest speakers from the local recovery community.

1989 to 2000:

As a staff person at a St. Louis based EAP, Personal Assistance Services (PAS), developed and facilitated a variety of training experiences for client companies and EAP staff.

Developed and presented Employee Orientation and Supervisor trainings for client companies.

Developed and presented Drug Free Workplace training for client companies.

Developed and presented “brown bag seminars” for client company employees. Topics included: stress management, time management, coping with organizational change, communication skills, parent skills, and other topics requested by HR staff. This included consulting with HR and management staff about the training needs of their employees.

Developed an extensive, custom tailored, program for AMOCO corporation refinery in Wood River, Il, that was being closed. This entailed multiple meetings with HR and management staff to determine needs, presentations for all staff at the worksite, for all three shifts, and developing and delivering a transition presentation as a major part of a three day off site event for employees and their spouses/partners.

Developed and facilitated a two hour, coping with organizational change seminar for Malinckrodt Corporation, corporate headquarters staff.

Developed and presented Critical Incident Stress training for Monterrey Coal Company (an EXXON subsidiary) in Carlinville, IL. Staff were preparing response for a possible serious mining accident, during which they would be responding to the needs of miners and their families.

Developed and presented suicide prevention screening to St. Charles County jail staff, in response to their experiencing and increase in suicide attempts in their jail. This included multiple meetings with the Superintendent of the jail, and observational time in the jail, as well as extensive research regarding prisoner suicides and screening/prevention techniques.

Developed and presented stress management training to St. Louis City Police Department, city jail staff. This entailed meeting with management to assess their needs, as well as time spent in the jail to observe the atmosphere.

Developed and facilitated a half-day workplace violence prevention training for management and HR staff of all PAS client companies. This involved extensive research and consultation with a St. Louis City Police officer who presented the workplace security portion of the training.

Facilitated multiple workplace violence seminars to employees of Phillips Petroleum Additives in Sauget, IL, with their external security consultant.

Developed and presented best practice procedures for multiple counseling issues, to all PAS clinical staff.

Developed and presented brief, solution focused therapy training to PAS staff.

Trained new-hires at PAS regarding best practices and use of assessment tools.

Developed and trained staff in use of improved assessment tools, including training on use of the SASSI (chemical dependency assessment tool) and the Strong-Campbell Vocational Interest Inventory.

1991:

Developed and facilitated pre-incident Critical Incident Stress training for staff of St. Louis Children’s Hospital Emergency Room staff.

1992:

Developed and facilitated two full day seminars for counselors, regarding assessing and treating Dual Diagnosis clients, for Sangamon State University. Seminars presented to groups of over 100 professionals, in Chicago and Mt. Vernon, IL.

1997-2000:

Developed and presented half-day psycho-educational seminar to family members of clients in a chemical dependency treatment program. Focus was the effects of chemical dependency on families. This was presented every fourth week, in a group setting, utilizing lecture, tapes, and group discussions.

2001 to present:

As an employee of Magellan Health Services, developed multiple tutorials for case management staff, regarding how to effectively use macros and templates to efficiently and effectively document services.

Developed case note and key stroke macros and templates for case management staff, resulting in more efficient note recording.

Participated in IP Simplification work group, which made suggestions for improvements in case management data base tool (AS400), and tested enhancements to this data base software.

Participated in Pre-coded Note work group, which developed approved note templates for the AS400 for St. Louis CMC.

Independently research and disseminate therapy resources (articles, assessment tools, treatment resources) to my work group. Many of these are now included on the internal resource website (MagIC).

Multiple work teams seek my assistance when needing assistance with using automated systems more efficiently and effectively.

Co-wrote and co-facilitated brown bag seminars for case managers and customer service staff. Each designed to educate about policy and procedure in a humorous presentation. Presentations utilized "The Weakest Link" and "Survivor" and included management and line staff as game participants.
